JNLCORP: Mechanical and Network Products Design & Analysis
Projects outlined include:
Optus Satellite, Space IR Telescope (SIRTF), Space Based Laser (SBL), Iridium and America's Cup, Championship Auto Racing (CART) & others.
Twenty years experience in aerospace satellites, rocket motors and 'high requirement' product development (commercial, NASA, other) . Most recently, Chief Mechanical Engineer of a large US Gov't multi agency development. Preliminary vehicle layouts (SBL-space based laser) detail designs, structural analysis & simulation, integration, and proto-qual optic system & structural test Program objectives. Generated mechanical segment requirements (AAS advanced architecture study), mechanical layout for antennae subsystems (Space Systems Optus), and point-of-departure vehicles (SBL) including initial CONOPS. Planned manufacturing spans, integration assembly, and test flows with schedules and manpower estimates for several large manufacturing scopes (e.g., $70M America's Cup builds). Expert in composites manufacturing and published regarding carbon dimensional stability designs (ICCM 8, 9, 10, SAMPE). Conducted customer executive level briefings at PDR and CDR levels, both structures, mechanisms & large optical systems. Leverage multi-discipline optimization (Soln200 multi-variate), finite element analysis methods, and classic stress analysis. Products include optical/laser bench systems, satellite primary structures, solar arrays, antennae systems, mechanical deployments, rocket motors & pressure vessels, armor & energetic ballistics, racecar components, racing yachts (4 U.S. America's Cup teams).
Fluent in mechanical integration, product data management / electronic workflow, 3D CAD solids, and finite element analysis methods.
FEA experience includes static, dynamic, nonlinear large deformation, thermo-hygro-hydro-aero-structural deformation and unique (hyper-elastic shape memory & composite) material models.
Tools: MSC-NASTRAN/ Patran (extensive), IDEAS (extensive), ANSYS, MARC, ABAQUS, SolidWorks, PRO/E, AutoCad.
Both Unix and NT Systems installation, maintenance and networking of CAD/CAE applications.
Solutions for Network Management- Develops information management software
using 4th generation expert system for network subsystems and new services offerings in nation-wide large scale networks. Working with clients, develop the management and information strategies. Perform engineering trade-offs for `best of breed' software solution. Independently manage the development tasks from concept to completion. Prototype and demonstrate network topologies and software layers. Experienced with analysis, prototyping and testing of Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). Develops in, and conducts, systems level tests of all interfaces including Gensym G2, HP OpenView, SNMP, CORBA, Oracle, TCP/IP sockets, C, Ada & HTML. Develops HTML interface for telemetry display and satellite commanding.
Large Network Management Data flow initiates at the Element Management Systems (EMS), which receives asynchronous status data (SNMP traps), and proactively `pings' ...
Clients: AT&T, Loral Space Systems, Hughes Systems, USAF Satellite Control Network (SCN), USAF Missile Systems Command, Lockheed Martin M&DS West
A new innovation uses photo-voltaic and thermal (heating & cooling) for residential and light commercial buildings. Design approach provides much higher energy efficiency than either photo-voltaic or thermal generation independently. The integral co-generation design, using conventional construction, and provides a significant long term energy savings over the life of the building. Computer monitored thermal controls augment passive heating and cooling, and also increase photo-cell efficiencies by cooling of PV panels.
